Susan Marie (Aylward) Sarno

Amesbury - Susan Marie (Aylward) Sarno of Amesbury, formerly of Newburyport, aged 76, died peacefully on August 8, 2024. Born on May 7, 1948 in Stoneham MA, to the late Gerald and Eileen (Muese) Aylward. Sue was an only child, until "Her David" came to live with them when she was a young teenager. David had the initial title of Cousin, but quickly became David her Brother, with whom she loved immensely. She recently reunited with David, after too many years, and mom said that was one of the best days she ever had.Sue attended Chererus School in Malden MA, where she grew up, graduating in 1966. She had met the love of her life, the late Jerald Paul Sarno, on January 26, 1962 at Hunts Drug Store in Malden; yes she and Jerry would remember this life changing date and would tell the story each year of this fateful meeting. They married April 6th, 1969 at Sacred Heart in Malden, and had two children; Christopher Sarno of Liverpool NY and Jennifer Sarno of Amesbury MA.She and her family moved to Newburyport MA in 1973. As an independent woman, Sue ran her own successful business, Small Business Bookkeeping, working with many local business owners. Local politics is where Sue engaged the art of diplomacy and learned her love of a good debate. She was modernistic in her beliefs, and worked endlessly to elect the first female Mayor of Newburyport, something (and someone) she was very proud of. Being so active and well known in town, Sue was referred to as a "Force to be reckoned with", stopping to chat with someone everywhere she went; even sitting with her beloved Jerry on a beach in Mexico, someone yelled "Sue Sarno!" from a few cabanas away. Sue and Jerry liked to travel to warm, sunny beaches with Palm trees. They always said it was not "Vacation until you see a Palm tree".Family was everything to Sue, she was "Grammy" to Evan, her first born, Maddie (Max) the middle, and with the birth of her third, Reese, our family was complete. Her grandchildren were her source of pride and joy. Grammy taught the grandkids how to make her family favorite "Sarno Sauce", the tradition of family feasts will continue on for generations. Every chance Sue got she was there, supporting and celebrating, not only her children, but her grandchildren as well.Sue could be very fun to be around. Her loving and giving nature embraced all who knew her. Often she was described as a "Hot ticket". She added wit and humor to every conversation, her laughter was infectious. Sue will be missed by every heart she touched throughout her journey of life.Sue left behind not just her children and grandchildren, but several friends who lived in her heart, and her Brother David whom she loved deeply. Her dearest friends are some whom she met in elementary school, or when she was a young mother, to those she worked with and worked for. She also leaves behind Nephews, a Niece, and several newly discovered cousins. Sue is reunited with her Jerry, her mom and dad, and several friends, all of whom were waiting for her with open arms. Fly high Mom, you are at peace.Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.

William K. Boyle

Newburyport - William K. Boyle passed away on August 4, 2024. A dedicated family man, husband and businessman, he was known to all who knew him and loved him as Bill. He was born in Newburyport on July 19, 1945 to William A. and Edna (Cox) Boyle. He attended Newburyport schools, graduating from NHS with the class of 1963. Growing up, Bill and his family spent happy summers at the family cottage on Parker River where he enjoyed boating and water skiing from an early age. The love of being on the water in a boat carried on throughout his life, his marriage and was passed on to his sons. Bill and Sharon Gouldthorpe were married on August 2, 1969, enjoying 55 years together. Together they raised their two sons, Tim and Chris, shared a love of Golden Retrievers throughout their marriage and enjoyed boating and traveling together. In 1985 they opened trucking company, TC Leasing Corp., providing local hauling services and joined by the boys as they grew older. Sadly, Timothy, who ran the company after his dad retired, unexpectedly passed away in March of 2023, a devastating heartbreak to family and for all who knew him.Bill leaves behind his wife, Sharon, son Christopher Boyle and wife Marie of Hampton Falls, and his brother, Edward Boyle of Newbury. The light of his life in the last six years has been his beautiful granddaughter, who he enjoyed so many happy times with. He also leaves behind the extensive Gouldthorpe side of the family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and beloved nieces and nephews.Family and friends may call on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA. Constance Sheridan

Newburyport - Constance Sheridan a resident of Newburyport passed away on Saturday morning August 10, 2024, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill. She was born in Wakefield, MA on January 3, 1927, to the late Nelson Archorn and Margaret R. (Bucknam) Shaw.She was raised in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School. Following her graduation Constance was employed as a Bank Teller briefly before her marriage to the late Walter T. Sheridan in 1948, becoming a stay at home mom. The couple resided in Worcester for a time before settling in Newburyport to raise their family. Later on in life she became a Sales Representative for the family business distributing educational books.In her spare time Constance enjoyed playing Bridge, tennis, and golf with family and friends. She also enjoyed oil painting and was a past president of the Chelmsford Art Society.Constance is survived by her children, David Sheridan and his wife Shelly of Salisbury, Lawrence "Wally" Sheridan and his wife Pamela of Lowell, Jane Sheridan of New Market, NH, Michael Sheridan and his wife Anne of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert Sheridan of Newburyport; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Phillip E. Shaw and her ver special sister in law Ann M. Sheridan.Family and friends may call from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950, her Service will be held in the Funeral Home following the calling hours at 4:00 P.M. William J. Drabik

Amesbury - William J. Drabik, 81, of Amesbury MA passed away on July 29, 2024 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington MA after a period of declining health.William, or Billy as he was known, was born on February 25, 1943 to Mikilina (Garbacz) and John Drabik in Amesbury MA. He graduated from Amesbury High School in 1960 and Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1962. He was employed by Western Electric, Bell Labs, Lucent Technology in North Andover MA.He married his high school sweetheart Anne (Torosian) Drabik on May 22, 1965 at Saint Joseph's Church in Amesbury. They remained in Amesbury and raised three sons, Jon, Marc and David. Billy participated in the St. Joseph's Drum and Bugle Corps growing up, was a Soda Jerk at Alec's Soda Shop and enjoyed hiking, skiing, and golf. He was active in his boys lives coaching baseball, as a Boy Scout Leader in Troop 7 and enjoyed exploring the White Mountains with them and sharing his secret swimming holes. Billy and Anne enjoyed traveling, their favorites being trips to Colonial Williamsburg VA and Disney World.He was predeceased by his wife Anne. He is survived by his sons and their spouses Jon W. Drabik and Courtney (Cutter) Drabik of Frisco CO, Marc E. Drabik and Bethany (Knight) Drabik of Portland ME, and David M. Drabik and Kate Rideout of West Wardsboro VT. His sisters Joanne Jacques of Seabrook NH and Susie and Alvin Mears of Newton NH. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren Hunter and his fiancé Abigail Cremer of Bozeman MT, Hannah, and Haedyn Drabik of Frisco CO, Colby Drabik of Portland ME, Amelia and Alexander Drabik of West Wardsboro VT.Calling hours will be on Monday August 12th from 4-7pm at EV Jutras and Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend Street, Amesbury MA.

Beverly, formally of Newburyport - Dorothy "Dot" Pearl (Spencer) Boucher of Beverly, formerly of Newburyport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly with her son and daughter by her side.Dorothy was born in Portsmouth, NH on January 20, 1927 to the late Lewis G. and Alice (Rand) Spencer. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1944 and went to work in Newburyport at Hytron Corporation where she met her husband, the late William H. Boucher. After the birth of her first son, she became a full-time homemaker and raised 3 children.At 50 years old, Dorothy decided it was time for a second career. She got her driver's license and applied for positions at Anna Jacques Hospital where she was employed initially as a housekeeper and then as a medical records clerk until her retirement at the age of 62.Dorothy enjoyed traveling and made several trips with friends and family over the years. She loved cats and opened her home to many feline friends over the course of her life.Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William H. Boucher and son Mark S. Boucher. She was also predeceased by her siblings Lewis G. Spencer, Jr., Herbert Spencer, Marilyn P. Spencer, and Hilda (Johnson) Wood. Dorothy is survived by her son William S. Boucher of Beverly and her daughter Diane M. Boucher and husband Ralph Peteranderl of Hamilton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Ehrlich and husband Michael of Yorktown, VA, Jessica Armendariz and husband Michael of Raeford, NC, Angelique Koszuta and husband Ted of Caledonia, WI, Joshua Gurney of Newburyport, MA, and Katarina Peteranderl of Hamilton, MA, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM to Noon on Saturday August 10, 2024 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, her Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home following the calling hours. Linda Shepherd Aganski

West Newbury - Linda Shepherd Aganski died on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at her homestead in West Newbury, MA after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her husband of 46 years, Paul Aganski, and her daughter, Rachel Shepherd Aganski. She passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. She was 76 years old.Linda was born in Joplin, MO on April 28, 1948. Her dad, Dayton Doris Shepherd, was a life-long educator and superintendent of public schools. Her mom, Juanita Roberta Gandy Shepherd, was a church educator, occasional retail sales person, and a loving and sometimes mischievous but fun person.Linda grew up splitting her time between southwest Missouri, North Carolina, and, most of all, Central Connecticut. The family settled in Connecticut because of her father's education at Yale University and subsequent job offerings. Later in life, her love of travel took her to many places including Canada, Europe, Africa, and Asia where she met Mother Theresa.Linda taught for 37 years in the public schools. Most of those years were spent at the Rupert A. Nock Middle School in Newburyport, MA. Circa 1977, Linda was taking evening classes at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary to augment her considerable teaching skills (her specialty was world cultures) when she met Paul who was a student there. During their courtship, Paul's family quickly grew to love and welcome Linda in part because she already knew how to Greek dance (thanks to a student's parent). Linda grew up Southern Baptist, married a Greek Orthodox, in an Episcopal church, and worshipped in the Anglican tradition until Alzheimer's brutally invaded her life. She was an ecumenical gem who read her Bible every morning. That's what faithful disciples do; a powerful witness.Linda was an avid gardener. She was happiest when she was digging in the dirt. The flowers from her gardens still declare the glory of God and leave behind markers of joy for family and visitors. The Almighty's gardens will be all the better under her care.She was also an exemplary teacher and role model. She was formally recognized as a master teacher in the Newburyport, MA public schools. But more than that, she was known at church as a master teacher of the Christian Holy Scriptures to adults. In her capable hands, the Scriptures came alive. Both her former public school students and church school students still express fond memories of her. She changed hearts and minds for the better. She lived what she taught.Besides being survived by her husband and daughter, Linda is survived by a son, Seth Shepherd Aganski.Calling hours will be at the Elliott, Woodworth, & Rogers Family Funeral Home on Green Street in Newburyport, MA on Thursday, August 8th, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Friend Street in Amesbury, MA on Friday, August 9th, at 10 a.m.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to All Saints Anglican Church of Amesbury, MA and to the Alzheimer's Association.

Newburyport - With great sadness and reflection, we announce the passing of Barbara D. Daunheimer of Newburyport, MA. She passed peacefully with her family and friends by her side at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, after a 2-year hard-fought and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Daunheimer, and loving mother of Craig E. Daunheimer of Oamaru, New Zealand, Sheri L. Daunheimer of Newburyport, MA, and the late Kristen B. Daunheimer-Buckley of Somerville, MA. She is also survived by her dear sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Philip Hoyt of Lunenburg, MA, her son-in-law Matthew Buckley of Somerville, MA, her daughter-in-law Mathea Daunheimer of Oamaru, New Zealand, and her two grandchildren, Susanna Wilson Buckley and Kurt T. Daunheimer. Her survivors also include her sister-in-law, Dorothy Scruton of Chicopee, MA; her nephew and niece, Daniel Scruton and Gayle Booth of Palmer, MA; and her niece, Diane Pisko of Sunderland, MA. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Norman and Winifred Wilson; her husband, Edward J. Daunheimer; and her daughter, Kristen B. Daunheimer-Buckley.Born and raised in Nantucket, MA, Barbara went on to graduate from high school at Northfield School for Girls, Gill, MA in 1963 and Wheaton College, Norton, MA in 1967. After graduation, she married her beloved Edward. Shortly thereafter, she and Ed started their family, and in 1979, settled in Newburyport, MA.Barbara was a dedicated educator. After working briefly as a French teacher and raising her young children, she taught Special Education at Newburyport High School, and then English, first at Rupert A. Nock Middle School and then for many years at Triton Regional High School. She always fought for her students' well-being and was well loved by her colleagues and her many students, with whom she enjoyed remaining in touch over the years to listen, advise, and share her hopes for their futures.After retiring from teaching, Barbara enjoyed her time with Ed, going on to care for him vigilantly until his passing in 2009. Barbara was also an enthusiastic member of The YWCA of Greater Newburyport, where she enjoyed pool exercise classes, and made many cherished friends. She was also very active at her church, All Saints Episcopal Church, in West Newbury. She was very happy to serve as Church Warden for many years, and was always there to comfort and support her church family.Barbara loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending as many of Susie's varied athletic events and choral performances as possible. She also enjoyed spending time with Kurt in New Zealand, making certain to be a part of his life -- even from the other side of the world. Of course a proud mother to Craig, Kristen, and Sheri, she was also very proud of the fine lady and gentleman her granddaughter and grandson grew up to be. Cherished by many, her memory will live on through the many lives she touched in all aspects of her life. Chris passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after a long-term illness on July 25, 2024.Born in Newburyport, MA, in 1957, Chris dedicated his life to the service of others through his work as a pharmacist. For over 30 years, he was a trusted and respected figure in New Hampshire's pharmacy community. He owned and operated Peters Pharmacy in Nashua, NH, for more than 20 of those years, where he built lasting relationships and served his community with unwavering commitment and care.Outside of his professional life, Chris loved his family and the outdoors, whether he was taking his kids four-wheeling through the woods, boating on the lake, camping in the White Mountains, or cruising in the Caribbean. He had a love for motorcycling, particularly his classic Honda, and was simultaneously thrilled and entirely at peace during a ride. After taking up skiing as an adult to spend more time with his family, he became the most enthusiastic of them all. He cherished his time boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, where he made countless memories with family and friends.On a sunny day, he could often be found enjoying a Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade, embracing simple pleasures. A varsity football player at Newburyport High School, Stoney was an ardent Pats fan and longtime season ticket holder who got to see the dynasty win time and time again in his life.Chris's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his two daughters, Caroline of Amherst, NH, and Shannon of Sausalito, CA; his son Michael and daughter-in-law Katie of Brooklyn, NY; his ex-wife of 20 years Claudette (Bouchard); his sister Barbara and brother-in-law Harold "Buster" Tarbox of Groton, CT; his brother Jeff and sister-in-law Pam of Newburyport, MA; and his sister-in-law Susan of Newburyport, MA.He was preceded in death by his parents John and Barbara (Murphy) and his brother Mike. Chris's dedication to his family was evident in his drive to provide the best for them, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His impact on the community and his family will be remembered with fondness and gratitude. Rochester - Robert D. Porkola, "Doc." 72, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 26, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amesbury, MA on February 14, 1952, Robert was the son of the late Norman Porkola and wife Sylvia (Putaansuu) Porkola.Following graduation from high school, Robert went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. He served as a Nurse Clinical Specialist at the Fort Sam Houston, Texas during the Vietnam War. This service to his country led him to memberships in the American Legion as well as the Victoire Club. He continued to live a life of service caring for people as a Practical Nurse for over 30 years.Following his service, Robert obtained his Associates Degree of Liberal Arts from the Northern Essex Community College. When away from work, Robert adored racing motorcycles, competing in archery, skiing, and playing a game of tennis or ice hockey. He also loved fishing in his free time. He once skied Tuckerman's Ravine down Mount Washington.Most importantly, Robert was a family man, dedicated father, and cared deeply for his friends. He often offered a room at his home to friends in need. Amesbury - Coleen A. (Craven) Jutras passed away July 28, 2024, having lived a full 91 years of life. She was born in Boone, IA, daughter of Helen (Larson) Carlson and Earl Craven. After graduating high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving 3 years, first at Carswell AFB, TX, then at Offutt AFB, Omaha, NE, Headquarters for Strategic Air Command. With pride, she would say she worked as a secretary for a female Lieutenant Colonel. As part of the Air Force's recruiting efforts, she & her sister Pat were photographed for use in ads to attract other women to the military. She met her husband, Norman "Skip" Jutras, Sr. at Offutt and they married on the base in 1954. After leaving the service, they moved to Skip's hometown, Amesbury and enjoyed 43 years together, until his death in 1998.Coleen was a faithful Catholic, attending church until the pandemic. In earlier years, she served as a CCD teacher & as chairperson of the craft table at church fairs. One of her favorite sayings was, "Do your best and God will do the rest". Coleen was a devoted mom to their 5 children, making birthdays and holidays very special and supporting whatever paths they were pursuing. For her supportive and protective nature, she earned the title "mother hawk". She was a master at hosting parties at their home and yard, preparing big "spreads" and always making it festive. People always had a good time at the Jutras'.She worked at Amesbury Town Hall in the treasurer's office in the 1960's then alongside Skip at the family funeral business. She wore many hats there, answering business calls (before beepers and cell phones), bookkeeping, landscaping, flower arranging and assisting grieving families when they rang the doorbell after hours. She had various hobbies through the years, including reading, playing the organ, cross-stitch and golf. Coleen wintered in Florida in later years, enjoying golf, bocce, trips to the casinos & gambling cruises to the Bahamas. She golfed in ladies' leagues both in Florida and at Amesbury Golf & Country Club. One time at ladies' league in Florida, she hit a hole in one.Coleen leaves four children and their spouses, Kimberley and Steven Graham, Coral Springs, FL, Cindy and Jim Brown, Newburyport, MA, Norman, Jr. and Jenna Jutras, Amesbury, MA, Christopher and Susan Jutras, Salisbury, MA; son-in-law Jason Page, Seabrook, NH; grandchildren Kelly (Page) Dorman and husband David; Norman Jutras, III and Emily Jutras; siblings Karen Penry, John Craven and Debi Craven; and many nieces and nephews. Amesbury - Ellen M Forbes passed away after an illness, on July 16th, 2024. Ellen was born in 1942 in Newton, MA, the eldest child of of Richard Forbes and Carolyn Forbes (nee Walker). She grew up on the family farm in Stow and Sudbury, MA and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School. Ellen also graduated from Colby Sawyer, Jr College and Lesley University. Ellen spent her adult life raising her family in Byfield, MA and later retired to Amesbury, MA.One of the first female EMT's with the Byfield Fire Dept in the 1970s, Ellen was an avid runner and animal lover, especially horses and dogs. She found great joy in her local and Cambridge Buddhist communities. Very proud of her Scottish heritage, Ellen enjoyed travel and her adventures included Peru, Mexico, Kenya and multiple trips to her beloved Scotland.Ellen is survived by her two siblings; Robert W. Forbes and Laurie F. Gioia; her three daughters; Hilary Moore, Andrea (John T.) John grew up in Newburyport and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1977 where he was a standout hockey player.John worked in various fields throughout his career. He was most recently employed by Benchmark Senior Living at Haverhill Crossings as Facilities Manager.John always knew how to lighten the mood and make people laugh with his extravagant stories and larger than life personality. John's hobbies included golf, going to the racetrack, fishing, boating, scuba diving, and bird watching. He always looked forward to his annual Aruba and Myrtle Beach trip with friends and family. John was a pillar in the local sports community. He was President of Triton Youth Hockey for many years. John was also involved in Salisbury Youth Baseball League and the Merrimack Valley Umpire Association. He coached youth hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. John had a major impact on the lives of many young athletes and their families.John is survived by his wife of 39 years Deborah Silva of Salisbury; Son John Silva III and wife Nicole, of Salisbury; Son Matthew Silva and wife Katie, of Haverhill; and six grandchildren Isabella, John IV, Lilliana, Josephine, Maverick, and Theodore Silva. He was the last survivor of his ten siblings. John Campbell, Marion Fila, Elizabeth Sarbanis Charles Campbell, Dorothy Campbell, Lorraine Merrill, Arlene April, Edward Campbell and Barbara Merrill. Robert loved family gatherings with his bothers and sisters.Robert grew up in Newburyport and and was a graduate of Newburyport High School Class of 1945. He went on to get a Teaching degree from Saint Anslem College and a Master's degree from Boston College.Robert got a Teaching position at Ashland High School in Ashland NH. teaching French and Latin. until his retirement in 1990. He also taught Hunter Safety for 26 years. He was an outdoors man loving hunting and fishing. Robert spent his time off in the Summer being a lifeguard. In the summer of 1981, he was a lifeguard on Squam lake in Holderness NH. The movie On Golden Pond was being filmed that Summer and Robert became friends with the cast and crew. Marblehead - Susan (Gilbride) Sheehan of Marblehead, MA, who spent a career as a registered nurse, including the last 20 years working in oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024.Susan is survived by her husband William Sheehan, with whom she spent 45 years of marriage. Cherished mother to Dennis Sheehan and his wife Robin of Boxford and Katharine Ronck and her husband Jay of Swampscott. Beloved grandmother to Will, Louis, Cecelia, and Sam, to whom she was unable to ever say "no." In addition, she leaves behind many cherished members of both the Gilbride and Sheehan families, including many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Katharine Gilbride, and her sisters Katharine Corbett and Elisabeth Winchell.After graduating from Rockland High School in 1972, Susan went on to study nursing at Boston College. It was during this time that Susan developed friendships that lasted her entire life. This included, most importantly, her husband Bill, also of Boston College's class of 1976. Sue and Bill raised their family on the North Shore, most memorably in West Newbury, where her humility, honesty, humor, and advice positively impacted her family, friends, and all those lucky enough to spend time in her presence. It was a carefully cultivated mix of Gilbrides, Sheehans, and close friends that ensured that her holidays, milestone occasions, and free time were always spent filled with mischievous laughter.Susan's highest priorities were spending time with the most important people in her life, her children's educations, and travelling with friends and family. However, it was the sun, sand, salt, and sea that consistently provided the backdrop for the most immense joy in her life. From her childhood on the shores of Corporation Beach, where she would later create new memories with her own family, to the days spent sneaking her children out of school for trips to Salisbury Beach, to endless time in some of her favorite settings: the Eagles Nest, Child's River, Coronado Island, the Caribbean, Ani, and her Marblehead porch. Susan's life was filled with innumerable happy memories, and it is these same memories that will allow her family and friends to remember her with so much love and joy forever.Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead on Tuesday, July 30th at 11am. Charles P. Sforza

Byfield - Charles Sforza, 83, of Byfield, MA, passed away on the evening of July 20, 2024, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his wife and family at his daughter's home in Gilmanton, NH. Charles was born in Revere, MA, the son of the late Catherine (Sacheta) Sforza of Everett, MA and Pasquale Sforza of Mirabella, Italy. He graduated from Revere High School in the Class of 1958. During his early school years, he met Joann Fitzgerald, the love of his life. The two dated throughout high school, and they married in 1963. The couple first lived in Georgetown, MA, before purchasing their family home in Byfield, MA, where they raised their seven children. He attended Boston University for almost two years, and while there he was an active member of the National Society of Pershing Rifle.Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Devens as Staff Sergeant First Class. A farmer by birth, Charles learned the trade alongside his father, Pasquale, on their farm in Revere, MA, primarily growing crop vegetables such as Roma tomatoes and leeks. These were transported for sale to the New England Produce Market in Boston and distributed to local Star Markets. After his discharge from the Army, he helped establish Sforza Farm in West Newbury, MA, with his father and brothers, Patsy and Frederick. Eventually, Charles transitioned from crop farming to horticulture, cultivating flowers, vegetables, and herbs in a greenhouse selling for retail sale. From this passion grew "Byfield Greenhouses" behind the family home in Byfield. Starting small, he built seven greenhouses by his own hand, renowned for producing the healthiest and most beautiful flowers in the region. He took particular pride in his trademark geraniums, originally cut and rooted by himself formany years. Customers, who became longtime friends, traveled from all over to admire and purchase his floral masterpieces.Charles was a quiet and introspective man who lived with integrity. He cherished God, his family, the Byfield community, his dogs, the earthy scent of a greenhouse, music, singing, and the natural world. He spoke with thoughtfulness, meaning, and great care, his wisdom treasured by all fortunate enough to converse with him. He started every day with a one-mile trip to the Main Street Mini Mart where he would pick up the newspaper and a scratch ticket. His children fondly recall rides with him "to market" or "to the farm" in the farm truck, where he serenaded them with songs.In the summer of 2022, Charles made the difficult decision to close Byfield Greenhouses following the tragic loss of his youngest daughter, Susan. He could not continue the business after her passing, and he figuratively and quite literally died of a broken heart.Charles is survived by Joann, his wife and life partner of 70 years, and six of his seven children: Tammy Sforza of Exeter, NH; Charles Sforza, Jr. (Darlene Gray) of Byfield, MA; Catherine Sforza (Gene Schwartz) of Georgetown, MA; Laura Sforza of Kensington, NH; Steven Sforza of Lee, NH; and Julie Sforza-Smith (Jason Smith) of Gilmanton, NH. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, (Anthony, Charles (CJ) , Deanna, Olivia, Christina, Travis, Alicia, Antonio, Nora Cate, Dominic and Myles) and seven great-grandchildren, (Addison, Reagan, Emelia, Mathias, Kiera, Nathan, and Kayla), who fondly referred to him as "Beba".Charles is also survived by his twin sister, Marie (Sforza) Walsh of Beverly, MA, several of his Sacheta family, aunts, uncles, and cousins from Everett, MA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.He was predeceased by his beloved youngest daughter and work partner, Susan Sforza, his brothers, Patsy and Frederick Sforza, and his canine companions, Tessie, Telly, and all the Dukes.He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. Leesburg - Mary Lou (Hounam) Cook, 81, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024 in Leesburg, FL. She was born on March 18, 1943 in Malden MA to Richard & Edith Burke. She graduated from Malden High School.Mary Lou lived in Salisbury MA up until her retirement. She worked at EPI in Newburyport and later at Domino's Pizza. She was a member of the Lions Club and Moose Lodge in Newburyport, she was always a big part of Yankee Homecoming. She was the most outgoing person, always on the go and always looked out for everyone else. After moving down to FL for retirement she was still non-stop. She loved sewing, knitting, going on 3-4 cruises a year, dancing, bingo, gardening and most of all spending time with her family that she loved so much and she would do anything for. She will be forever missed.She is survived by her loving husband Fred Cook, beloved sister Dottie Milani, son James Hounam of Exeter, NH, son Richard Hounam his wife Mollie of Salisbury, MA, along with their son Ryan Stanwood, his wife Kristin and daughter Hadley of Salisbury, MA, daughter Cynthia Hounam of Epping, NH, Tim McNeil and step son Chad Cook and his wife Paula of Haverhill, MA. Her grandchildren Hannah Hounam, Craig Hounam, Danielle Hounam, Caleb and Cailey Cook.
